Event Report - D1GB Round 4, Silverstone

Its been a while since our last newsletter as the D1 circus has had it's summer break. Sunday the 20th of August saw Team Falken GB head up to Silverstone for Round 3 of the D1GB with Garry Kennedy fired up and ready for a good day in front of a big crowd.

In a complete contrast to the previous event at Silverstone, the day dawned wet and the competitors were greated by a damp and slippery track for their initial practice runs. With the grip levels being almost impossible to assess, Garry managed a brief trip into the gravel during his practice runs. Running in wet conditions make drifting very difficult as there is less grip to stop the momentum of the car rotating it into a complete spin, it is a really fine balance between holding a slide and spinning out as all the drivers showed in the morning session. The wet weather would negate any power advantage from the competitors ,however, which could be of benefit had the wet weather continued.

As the day progressed the track dried and by the time of the qualification runs it was a bone dry but cool and blustery, overcast, day. As it cycled through to Garry's runs the competition were showing that their level of abilities had increased and the competition was tougher than ever. With some detailed guidance of line and pace between his runs Garry improved each time he attempted the course and finished with a career best of 17th place and 83 points just 2 points off of qualifying into the top 16 run off.

Heading home at the end of the day it was a mixture of pride for a good days driving and dispair at coming SO close, but then that's motorsport!

Also on hand during the day was the Team Falken GB hospitality bus full of Falken personnel, Falken Girls and loads of goodies such as caps, t-shirts, posters and the like which went down really well with the punters.

Team Falken also have been at 2 major motoring events with static displays. Firstly we were at the Max Power Show in the Birmingham NEC, the biggest aftermarket tuning show in the country, with a large stand displaying the Falken product, one of the Team Falken GB drift cars and showing our promotional video on a large plasma screen in front of 10 foot high pictures of the drift team in action. If you want to see the promo video for yourself simply visit our website www.TeamFalkenGB.com and the video will start playing.

The second show we visited was the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the widely acclaimed festival of all things motorsport where we did our bit in trying to bring drifting to a wider audience with a display car and loads of free goodies handed out.
