Team Falken were at Silverstone on the 17th of June for Round 2 of the D1GB. With the cars fully repaired after their wall brushing antics in Round 1 at Rockingham, the team went into the practice sessions full of confidence for a good day.
Garry's initial runs in practice were excellent with a good, high-speed entry and big angle throughout, aided by the new turbo fitted to the car by AET giving more low down flexibility in the engine. John's initial runs were thwarted by 'over boosting' in third gear which required a little bit of fiddling with the boost controller by Jez of Horsham Developments.
By the second practice session of the day the temperature had gone up dramatically and all the D1 drivers were struggling with excessive grip from the tyres. The team elected to reduce the tyre width for the qualification run. Both drivers put in good runs in the qualification run but unfortunately missed out on the top 16 cut as the high skill of the top drivers again ruled the day.
Falken bought their hospitality bus to the event and had it parked up in prime position on the outside of Luffield bend with the top deck of the bus providing excellent viewing of the action. The Falken Girls were also on hand giving out flyers and having many photos taken.
Looking forward, the next round of the championship is at Knockhill in Scotland this weekend however Team Falken GB will be missing this round as we are at the Max Power show in Birmingham from the 30th June to the 2nd July with a static display stand featuring the Falken 452 tyre run by the team, one of the Team Falken GB Nissan 200SX drift cars and, of course, the ever popular Falken Girls.
The following weekend we will be on the show circuit again as we take the same static display to the Goodwood Festival of Speed as we try to open up drifting to a whole new market within motorsport. We will be back soon with a full report from these shows.
